what is it

that lives only when held
but dies whenever clutched

inexplicable
but unmistakable

what carries me off to work
and sustains me as I come home
thinking of you
and dreaming
dreaming

what makes the sun and the stars
and the scent of rain
pale and whither away

just by the realization
that you're next to me when I awake
